I’m always suspicious of anyone demanding outsourcing of core functions. Not necessarily bad advice but one thing I’ve learned is that you’ll never develop a core competence in a discipline you completely outsource.
So, why is that a bad thing?
If you look at something like accounting, you will quickly grasp the concept that understanding your financial position is critical to your success. If you don’t understand numbers, you should. Sorry.
I feel the same way about marketing. This is the discipline that turns your business from a cottage industry to an industrial revenue factory.
So, outsource the tasks of marketing – SEO, digital advertising, web development, etc. – but own the strategy and marketing plan. Own the KPIs. Understand the strategic implications of the marketing spend. Take control of your future!
